Michael qualified with an honours degree as a dentist from Trinity College Dublin in 1995. He worked as a House Surgeon in Dublin Dental Hospital in 1996 before moving back to his native Tipperary to work in general dental practice for 3 years. During this time he completed his membership exams at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and completed a course in craniofacial growth and development in America. Michael returned to Trinity in 1999 to study for three years before attaining a Masters in Orthodontics in November 2001. Michael also received a fellowship in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. Michael then worked in the Orthodontic Department in St. James’ Hospital in Dublin for three years while setting up his private practice in Kilkenny at the same time.
Michael works at the Kylemore Clinic and also attends a satellite clinic at Lower Liberty Square Thurles. Michael keeps up to date with new developments through his membership of the Irish Orthodontic Society, the American Association of Orthodontists and the World Federation of Orthodontists.
Michael is married to Nell and they have three young children.
